Shattered life: story of a Kenyan drug mule in Hong Kong

I am an African woman from Kenya, and a single parent. I want to tell my story to let my countrymen and the world know about drug trafficking.

As a single parent with two children life was not easy. I worked in all types of jobs to put food on the table and to give my children a basic education. In my struggle, a lady friend asked me if I would be willing to work in another country for a good pay. It would change my life.

She told me how she worked for a few months as a domestic helper and her life changed. I accepted with joy but I told her I had no money to pay for the trip. She said that wouldn’t be problem, they would take care of it.

When I was about to leave Kenya, an agent gave me my passport, all the documents, even hotels’ vouchers and said I would have to stop in Addis Ababa, at a hotel where I would need to connect with the person who would take me to Macau, China.

They will promise heaven on earth, they will entice you with mouth-watering job offers and come up with all kind of things

A dark day

I waited at the hotel where a man eventually came and took me to his house. He then said that I had to take something along with me. When I asked what it was, he brought out something that looked liked capsules. He said I should swallow them. I refused. He said if I didn’t do it he would kill me there, as nobody knew my whereabouts. He asked me to take off my clothes because I was to put something into my private parts.

I screamed and attempted to run but he had already locked up the doors. In that process, he brought out a knife and commanded me to take off my clothes, which then I did. He raped me and forced some of those stuff. I started crying and I asked him to kill me instead of poisoning me. He said it wasn’t poison, that it is not harmful, and then he swallowed a few pieces. The man said I was a fool, that this is what other ladies beg to do and I was acting like a fool. He said if I don’t he will kill me and also kill my children.

I screamed and attempted to run but he had already locked up the doors.

Finally I started swallowing. I vomited three times then I fainted. He poured water on me to wake me up. When I couldn’t swallow all that he brought out, he then forced them into my private parts and said that we were running out of time.

That was how he instructed me not to say a word to anyone or else my family would die.

He called a cab that took us back to the hotel and told me I should go back to my room and wait for the shuttle bus to take me back to the airport. He left right away and I waited in my room.

Arrest in Hong Kong

All through my journey to Hong Kong I wasn’t myself. I was in a shock.

When I arrived Hong Kong, I presented my passport and went to exchange money and bought my ferry ticket to Macau. I know I wasn’t myself but I was managing because I don’t want anything to happen to my family. Maybe due to my strange behaviour the Customs officials called me and took me into an office for a body search. Immediately, one capsule fell out from my body. That was how I found myself in prison now.

For several months I have been in shock, unable to remember everything. I almost lost my mind, I couldn’t talk, couldn’t speak a word of this to anyone. I was losing my mind.

Look at how I’m suffering in prison, leaving my children alone at home.

A word of warning

Please, my people, it is better to manage with what little to you have with peace of mind than trying to make big money and end up like me. These agents are wicked. They will promise heaven on earth, they will entice you with mouth-watering job offers and come up with all kind of things just to disappoint you at the end. They have put so many people, both men and women, into prison in Hong Kong and some other places in the world. Everyone with their own story.

I decided to write mine to raise awareness to everyone all over the world.

I am currently serving prison term in Hong Kong with sadness, fear and worry. The drug lords and the evil trade are everywhere, please be warned. Living a life in prison is not easy. Do not allow yourself to be used, recruited, tricked or coerced into drug trafficking.

Please pray for us. God bless you.
